Join the UCF Alumni Community Volunteers Chapter as we help beautify
the Central Florida Zoo and Botanical Gardens!
Saturday, May 18
9 a.m. - noon
We'll take in the sights of more than 400 animals while helping with an ongoing project to repair and stain fences and boardwalks within the zoo. As a special thank you to our volunteers, you will have complimentary access to the zoo for the remainder of the day after the service project.
Space is limited for this event, so reserve your spot today!

*Middle and High School students are welcome to volunteer as long as they are with an adult.
**Family members may join volunteers at noon at a discounted rate of $11.50 for adults and $8.50 for children 3-12.
Jefferson Awards : April 2013

Celebrating its six year anniversary, the UCF Alumni Jefferson Awards Reception recognizes the UCF Alumni Association's most active volunteers for their countless acts of generosity and numerous volunteer hours with the association. Hosted by the UCF Alumni Community Volunteers Chapter, the awards focus on public service and the importance of giving back.

The national Jefferson Awards program began in 1992 as a way to recognize people who serve and honor their own community. The Jefferson Awards also encourage people in their own communities to volunteer their time. Past national winners of the Jefferson Awards include: Henry Kissinger, Alan Greenspan, Gen. Colin Powell, Justice Thurgood Marshall, John Glenn and Condoleezza Rice to name a few.

Habitat for Humanity 2013 - March 9, 2013
UCF Alumni helped to make someone's dream of home ownership come true at Habitat for Humanity in March. Volunteers helped with landscaping, laying sod at the designated home in Orlando. Volunteers were also encourages to participate in the Change Challenge where they emptied their pockets and couch cousions to find spare change to help build a future home for a family in need.

Rampage 2013 - February 16, 2013
UCF Alumni Community Volunteers joined other Center of Independence (CIL) volunteers to help make homes more accessible to those with disabilities. Alumni volunteers helped to build a ramp at the home of local army veteran Dale. Dale who suffered an knee injury and is wheelchair bound and having difficulty getting around because his home did not have an access ramp. Each year CIL raises volunteers to help families like Dale's. Dale and his wife were present at the event and couldn't thank volunteers enough for helping to give Dale the freedom he needed to move about his own home. See the story in UCFToday.

Citrus Gleaning - January 12, 2013
January was gleaning season for the Community Volunteers Chapter. Alumni volunteers joined students from Volunteer UCF to glean fruit from trees at Dr. Todd Husty's grove in Oviedo during the Society of St. Andrew's citrus gleaning project. Volunteers were given citrus picking tools and bags to collect fruit. All of the citrus picked was donated to the Second Havest Food Bank. WESH channel 2 news was even on the scene filming the gleaning project.

Seminole Christmas Village - Dececember 5, 2012
Alumni Community Volunteers helped at the Seminole Christmas Village hosted by Seminole County Sheriffs Office and Community Based Care of Seminole. Children of all ages came out to enjoy crafts, cookie decorating, a visit from Santa, numorous bounce house type-games and a gift giveaway, while parents shopped in the toy room. Alumni volunteers wrapped presents, were personla shoppers, assisted with crafts and cookie decorating and manned the bounce houses. A fun time was had by all, especially the kids.

Knights Pantry Food Drive - November 2012
The UCF Alumni Community Volunteers, the UCF Alumni Association and the UCF FAIRWINDS Alumni Center teamed up to collect food to support the UCF Knights Helping Knights Pantry. The Knights Helping Knights Panty opened in 2009 and is a student run program. The on campus pantry is open to all students with a valid ID and works on the honor system where students only take what they need. All items in the pantry are donated, often by organized food drive such as this one.

Knights Give Back Greenwood Cemetery Clean-up - October 20, 2013
The UCF Alumni Community Volunteers Chapter hosted a project at Greenwood Cemetery in support of Knights Give Back, UCF's annual campus-wide, day of service. This year, nearly 80 UCF alumni and students came together and assisted with beautification efforts including cleaning of headstones, grave markers and memorials, removing debris, and landscaping. Volunteer UCF provided bussing for UCF students to participate. The cemetery's sexton, Don Price, was on hand to provide the group with fun facts and historical references about the Greenwood Cemetery.

A Gift for Teaching Service Project - September 8, 2012
Alumni volunteers came together at A Gift For Teaching to help with their annual Push event. AGFT's free stores allow teachers to shop for supplies needed in the classroom without having to spend their own money. Volunteers helped organize school supplies in the wharehouse and help teaches load large items into their vehicles. AGFT recognized the UCF Alumni Association for contributing 90 volunteer hours (a combination of all the volunteers participating over the three hour duration) for an estimated value of $1,961.10! Way to go Knights!

Back 2 School Supply Drive - August 2012
Thanks to everyone who contributed to this year's Back 2 School Supply Drive. We filled an SUV full of donated school supplies for A Gift For Teaching! Your contributions will help many young students start the school year off right. AGFT recognized the UCF Alumni Association for donating a total of 14,223 items.
A special thank you goes to the Council of Alumni Membership and Marketing Professionals (CAMMP) who hosted their annual conference at the UCF FAIRWINDS Alumni Center in July. Schools from around the country contributed school supplies and swag giveaway items to the drive during the conference.
