Outstanding Alumni Honored at Black & Gold Gala
Mr. Mario Ponce, '90 is this year's Professional Achievement award for the Rosen College of Hospitality Management.
Mario became fascinated by the restaurant business at a very young age. His first official job was as a dishwasher, but it wasn't long before he had worked his way through all of the varios positions that the restaurant business had to offer.
Mario knew that his career goals revolved around two things - travel and working with people. After arriving in Central Florida, by way of a company transfer, he came to UCF and began studying hospitality. Through his involvement with various university organizations and fraternities he discovered that he excelled in a variety of leadership roles.
Orlando's hospitality opportunities provided an assortment of industry experience which Mario took advantage of while attending UCF. Now living in Chicago, those experiences have helped him become the owner of his own hospitality firm. A job which he loves because he feels he gets paid to make people happy every day.
Congratulations, Mr. Mario Ponce!
Since graduating from UCF’s Rosen College with a B.S. in Hospitality Management, Akers, a theme park enthusiast, has served in variety of operational positions for attractions, like Busch Gardens, SeaWorld, Universal Orlando, and Hard Rock Park. In 2009, he accepted a position to join the opening management team for Universal Studios Singapore. Today, Akers remains in Singapore as the Assistant Director of park operations for Resorts World Sentosa - Marine Life Park.
Congratulations, Mr. Douglas Akers!
