Bringing Future Knights & Alumni Together On July 28, more than 50 alumni, incoming freshmen and their families joined together for Senior Send Off, a night of UCF celebration and fun at the Melting Pot in Cooper City, FL. Joined by Tom Messina, '84, executive director of the UCF Alumni Association and hosted by the Southeast Florida UCF Alumni Chapter, incoming freshmen completed a scavenger hunt allowing them to get to know the alumni in attendance. After getting to learn more about each other, students mingled with alumni, who shared their fond memories and experiences of being a UCF Knight.
"Sharing some of my favorite college experiences and seeing the excitement on their faces as they prepare to make their own reinforces how great it is to be a Knight," says David Kaplan, '03, past co-chair of the SEFL Chapter and current member-at-large.Last year, chapter members decided that they wanted to accomplish more than just being able to connect with each other, but additionally be able to provide assistance to local high school seniors as they prepare to begin their college careers. Alumni and families alike were brimming with pride when the SEFL Chapter selected and awarded three Southeast Florida Knight Scholarships based on applications submitted from incoming freshman from Miami-Dade, Broward and Palm Beach counties, who had a minimum GPA of 3.0 and answered the question, "What do you plan to accomplish at UCF and how do you envision your UCF experience to develop you as an individual?"Awarded with $250 scholarships to ensure they have the resources they need to become successful Knights were: Nicole Guerrero, Rachel Sainte-Claire Million and Jessica Fernandez. The funds for these scholarships were raised through a variety of alumni programming, including watch parties and social/networking events, and culminated in a wonderful signature event — the Black and Gold Holiday Party.
"It means so much to actually see our scholarships come to fruition, see the excitement in the students eyes and the pride radiating from their families," says Jamie Rosenberg, '07, current chair of the SEFL Alumni Chapter. "Once just an idea, our chapter worked hard to make the Southeast Florida Knight Scholarships a reality — one that we hope to continue and grow every year."The Southeast Florida Alumni Chapter has a bright future ahead, and its member look forward to welcoming these students as alumni so they will continue to be connected to UCF for what is sure to be a shared source of pride.

Signature Event Recap
Southeast Florida UCF Alumni "U-Knight" to Help Incoming UCF Freshmen
On Dec. 9, 2010, the Southeast Florida UCF Alumni Club hosted their 2nd Annual Black and Gold Holiday Party at China Grill in the Hilton Ft. Lauderdale Marina. At this event, many local alumni gathered together to celebrate the upcoming holidays, meet fellow alumni and donate funds to help future UCF students. Funds raised at the event will go toward two $250 book scholarships that will be awarded to incoming UCF freshmen at a future event in May of 2011. The alumni participated in chance drawings and a silent auction to win many prizes, which were generously donated by local South Florida businesses. Many winners walked away with fantastic gifts as well as the satisfaction of knowing they helped their community and their alma mater.
Chair-elect Jamie Rosenberg, '07, was instrumental in putting this remarkable event together along with the help of co-chairs David Kaplan, '03, and Lloyd Macedo, '06, as well as the remainder of the board: Maggie Gunther,'03, Matt Savarick, '06, Alex Dash, Jeanette Owens and Howie Schachere, '03. This event was all about giving back to the local community, and that is what our Southeast Florida alumni proudly united to do.
