Introducing New College Leadership
UCF has named Dr. Mary Lou Sole as interim dean of the College of Nursing, effective Aug. 8. Dr. Maureen Covelli will serve as interim associate dean of undergraduate affairs, while Dr. Susan Chase continues as associate dean of graduate affairs.

Dr. Jacqueline (Jacquie) Fowler Byers
Former UCF Nursing Professor Jacqueline (Jacquie) Fowler Byers of Oviedo passed away peacefully at home June 18 from complications associated with chronic illness. She was 56.
Byers held a variety of nursing positions throughout her career. She served as a professor at the University of Central Florida College of Nursing from 1998 to 2012 before retiring. Previously she spent seven years at Orlando Health in leadership roles, including education specialist, director of research, and corporate administrator of quality management and performance improvement. College of Nursing Alumni Chapter Continuing Education Dinners

The UCF College of Nursing Alumni chapter hosted four continuing education dinners this fall across Central Florida as a part of the Simply Speaking: Pulmonary Arterial Hypertension Lecture Series. Attendees earned one continuing nursing education unit (CNE) hour for their participation. Following the lecture, guests heard an update on the college from Dr. Mary Lou Sole, Interim Dean for the College of Nursing, and how to stay connected to the UCF Alumni Association from Erin Turner.Continuing Education Dinners

These dinners are held in the fall and spring at several locations to accommodate our alumni throughout Central Florida. Attendees earn one contact hour for their participation.
Fall 2013 Continuing Education Dinners
Nursing Management of PAH (Pulmonary Arterial Hypertension)
The UCF Alumni Association and the UCF College of Nursing hosted four continuing education dinners this fall across Central Florida as a part of the Simply Speaking Lecture Series on the Nursing Management of Pulmonary Arterial Hypertension.
This program provided a clear understanding of the diagnostic criteria, quality of life issues, and medical management considerations for patients diagnosed with PAH. The program also addressed issues nurses face with management of PAH, including early identification and referral of patients with symptoms suggestive of PAH for appropriate diagnostic testing, understanding the risk-benefit equation for specific PAH therapies and associated treatment, and nursing methods of support in crucial clinical management roles to improve patient quality of life and medical outcomes.
