2013 UCF Alumni Association Scholarships

The UCF Alumni Association awards scholarships each year to undergraduate and graduate students. Scholarship applications are available each spring (in early January) with an application deadline at the end of March.

A committee made up of alumni volunteers reviews the scholarship applications and determines the recipients. The scholarship winners are announced over the summer, and the monetary awards are distributed at the beginning of the fall semester. The UCF Alumni Association awards more than $40,000 per year in scholarships.

Applications and supporting documents, recommendation forms and letters must be submitted online through the application form below and are due promptly by 5 p.m. on Friday, March 29, 2013.

Transcripts must be postmarked by March 29, 2013. Please mail transcripts to: UCF Alumni Association, Attn: Scholarship Committee, UCF FAIRWINDS Alumni Center, P.O. Box 160046, Orlando, FL 32816-0046.

UCF Alumni Scholarship Submission Criteria

You are encouraged to apply for as many of the scholarships for which you are eligible. A separate application and recommendation form must be submitted for EACH scholarship for which you apply.

  • All scholarships require a minimum 3.5 GPA (unless otherwise noted) and enrollment at UCF as a full-time student (12 hours undergraduate or 9 hours graduate) during the fall 2013 semester unless otherwise specified below.

  • You must have ONE recommendation form submitted by someone other than a family member (IE. faculty member, advisor, employer, etc.) for EACH scholarship for which you apply. The form will be automatically sent to your recommender once you submit the request.

  • You are also required to submit ONE SET of college transcripts (regardless of the number of scholarships for which you apply) from ALL institutions currently enrolled (including UCF) and previously attended. If you are coming to UCF directly from high school you must submit a transcript from that school. Only SEALED, OFFICIAL transcripts will be accepted. Send to: UCF Alumni Scholarships, P.O. Box 160046, Orlando, FL 32816-0046 or hand deliver to the UCF FAIRWINDS Alumni Center (Building 126, main campus). Must be postmarked by March 29, 2013.

  • All application materials MUST be submitted electronically, with the exception of transcripts.

  • Class standing is calculated by the number of credit hours you will have as of fall 2013: Freshman (0-29 hrs), Sophomore (30-59 hrs), Junior (60-89 hrs), Senior (90+ hrs). Graduate students are those who have already received their bachelor's degree.

  • Incomplete applications, those not meeting the guidelines above or late submissions WILL NOT be considered.

  • UCF Foundation employees and immediate family members, including spouse and children are not eligible for UCF Alumni Association Scholarships.

Please note: All scholarship awards are contingent upon satisfactory academic progress. During the academic year for which a scholarship is awarded (2013-2014), you must be enrolled as a full-time student (12 hours undergraduate/9 hours graduate) and maintain a minimum 3.0 GPA.

UCF Alumni Association Scholarships

The following list details the scholarships offered by the UCF Alumni Association. Please note that some scholarships and awards may have additional application and/or selection criteria to those listed above.

Most prestigious award given to a current UCF undergraduate student (any class standing) by the UCF Alumni Association. Winner receives a lifetime membership to the UCF Alumni Association ($700 value) and special recognition at the Black & Gold Gala during Homecoming week.

Selection criteria: demonstrated outstanding achievement in one or more of the following areas – scholarship, athletics, Student Government, community service, religious activities, campus activities and/or creative or performing arts.

Each applicant for this award is required to submit an essay (maximum 600 words) in the "additional information requested" section of the online application explaining why he/she deserves to be recognized with the Distinguished Student Award. Include a word count total.

One $2,000 award to a UCF student with senior class standing in fall 2013. This scholarship was established by the FTU 25-year reunion class of 1973.

Selection criteria: a) outstanding service to the university through leadership positions in Student Government, honor organizations, campus organizations and offices, etc. and/or b) outstanding service to the community through leadership roles in impactful volunteer service projects and/or c) exceptional work experience.

Each applicant for this award must submit an essay (maximum 600 words), in the "additional information requested" section of the online application, explaining how one of the selection criteria above best describes you and providing details evidence of such. Include a word count total.

One (or more) $1,000 award(s) to a UCF student(s) with senior class standing in fall 2013.

Selection criteria: well-rounded involvement at UCF, in the local community and/or exceptional work experience.

Each applicant for this award must submit an essay (maximum 600 words), in the "additional information requested" section of the online application, explaining how one of the selection criteria above best describes you and providing details evidence of such. Include a word count total.

One (or more) $1,000 award(s) to a UCF student(s) with the appropriate class standing (sophomore, junior and graduate student) in fall 2013.

Selection criteria: a) well-rounded involvement at UCF or b) outstanding service to the local community or c) exceptional work experience

Each applicant for this award must submit an essay (maximum 600 words), in the "additional information requested" section of the online application, explaining how one of the selection criteria above best describes you and providing details evidence of such. Include a word count total.

One (or more) $1,000 award(s) to a UCF student(s) of any class standing in fall 2013 whose parent, grandparent or legal guardian is a UCF graduate. Applicant must be a registered UCF student or a high school student applying as an incoming freshman (please submit sealed, official high school transcripts). Name and last four digits of the parent/grandparent/legal guardian's Social Security number are required on the application for verification purposes.

Selection criteria: a) well-rounded involvement at UCF or high school or b) scholastic merit or c) outstanding service to the local community.

Each applicant for this award must submit an essay (maximum 600 words), in the "additional information requested" section of the online application, explaining how one of the selection criteria above best describes you and providing details evidence of such. Include a word count total.

Up to four $1,000 awards to transfer students from any community/state college. Student(s) must transfer DIRECTLY from the community/state college to UCF with an Associate of Arts degree in summer or fall 2013.

Selection criteria: a) well-rounded involvement on community/state college campus, b) outstanding service to the local community or c) exceptional work experience.

Each applicant for this award must submit an essay (maximum 600 words), in the "additional information requested" section of the online application, explaining how one of the selection criteria above best describes you and providing details evidence of such. Include a word count total.

One (or more) $500 award(s) to a UCF student(s) of any class standing who is a current dues-paying member(s) of the 4EVER KNIGHTS Student Alumni Association.

Selection criteria:

a) involvement in 4EVER KNIGHTS

b) involvement on campus or in the community and

c) UCF spirit and affinity.

Each applicant for this award is required to submit an essay (maximum 600 words), in the "additional information requested" section of the online application, explaining how this award will benefit his/her education, what UCF spirit means to him/her and how he/she plans to get involved and leave his/her own legacy at UCF upon graduation. Include a word count total.

One (or more) $500 award(s) to the UCF student of a current parent donor(s) to The UCF Fund.

Selection criteria:

a) student's involvement on campus or in the community

b) student's UCF spirit and affinity

Parent(s) must specifically be a PARENT donor of The UCF Fund. Each applicant for this award is required to submit an essay (maximum 600 words) in the "additional information requested" section of the online application explaining how this award will benefit his/her education, what UCF spirit means to him/her and how his/her parents support him/her and UCF. Include a word count total.

One scholarship, typically $1,000, granted to a non-traditional UCF student of junior class standing who is conquering personal or family challenges.

Selection criteria:

a) a minimum 3.0 GPA

b) must determine need as determined by the FAFSA (Free Application for Federal Student Aid) and

c) a non-traditional student who is conquering personal or family challenges

(Examples include single parents or students serving as head of household with children, students returning to college later in life after overcoming personal adversities, or students dealing with unusual circumstances that prevented them from pursuing their degree at an earlier time in life). ***NOTE: Preference may be given to applicants who attended Apopka Learning Center in Apopka, FL

UCF Alumni Association Chapter/Club Scholarships

The following list details the scholarships offered by the UCF Alumni Association Chapter's and Clubs. Please note that some scholarships and awards may have additional application and/or selection criteria to those listed above.

One $500 award to a UCF student of any class standing in fall 2013 from the Tampa Bay Area.

Selection criteria:

a) be a permanent resident of Pinellas or Hillsborough county and

b) be a registered UCF student or a high school student applying as an incoming freshman (please submit sealed, official high school transcripts with application). Send to: UCF Alumni Scholarships, P.O. Box 160046, Orlando, FL 32816-0046 or hand deliver to the UCF FAIRWINDS Alumni Center (Building 126, main campus). Must be postmarked by March 29, 2013.

Each applicant for this award is required to submit an essay (maximum 600 words), in the "additional information requested" section of the online application, detailing why he/she chose UCF, his/her scholastic achievement and financial need. Include a word count total.

Up to two $500 awards to a UCF student of any class standing (including incoming freshman) who is a permanent resident of Volusia County or Flagler County and enrolled at UCF Daytona Beach.

Selection criteria: a) a minimum 3.0 GPA and b) involvement in extracurricular activities

Each applicant for this award is required to submit an additional essay (maximum 500 words in 12 point Arial font), in the "additional information requested" section of the online application, answering the question: What are your long term goals and how will attending UCF, and this scholarship, help you in achieving them? Include a word count total.

Up to two $1000 awards to a UCF student of any class standing (including incoming freshman) who is a permanent resident of Brevard County.

Selection criteria: a) a minimum 3.0 overall GPA. b) permanent resident of Brevard County

Applicant must provide a one-page essay, double spaced, size 12 font, Times New Roman or Arial, on "Why volunteering is important to you." Applicant must submit two letters of recommendation - one letter MUST be from a non-relative, blood relation and one letter CAN be from a relative, blood relation. Applicant must submit all sealed, official high school or college transcripts. (High school transcripts are required only if you are an incoming freshman to UCF).

Up to three $500 awards to an incoming UCF freshman in fall 2013 who is a permanent resident of Dade, Broward, or Palm Beach counties.

Selection Criteria: a) be a permanent resident of Dade, Broward, or Palm Beach counties (please submit sealed, official high school transcript with application) and b) a minimum 3.0 GPA. Send to: UCF Alumni Scholarships, P.O. Box 160046, Orlando, FL 32816-0046 or hand deliver to the UCF FAIRWINDS Alumni Center (Building 126, main campus). Must be postmarked by March 29, 2013.

Each applicant for this award is required to submit an essay (maximum 500 words), in the "additional information requested" section of the online application, answering the question: What do you plan to accomplish at UCF and how do you envision your UCF experience to develop you as an individual?

One $1,000 award to a part-time or full-time UCF graduate student in fall 2013.

Selection criteria: - a) a minimum 3.0 overall GPA b) demonstrated involvement in leadership, community service and/or extracurricular activities (professional organizations, societies, etc.)

Each applicant for this award is required to submit an essay (maximum 500 words), in the "additional information requested" section of the online application, answering the question: How will your graduate education impact the UCF community? Include examples of your demonstrated involvement in leadership, community service and/or extracurricular activities. All applicants are also required to submit a current resume.

Up to two $500 awards to a UCF student with junior, senior or graduate class standing in fall 2013 from the College of Business Administration.

Selection criteria:

a) a minimum 3.0 overall GPA,

b) demonstrated involvement in leadership, community service and/or extracurricular campus activities,

c) must be willing to serve one-year term on the CBA Alumni Chapter Executive Committee after graduation (if remaining local) and

d) completed College of Business Administration scholarship application form

***Note: Preference given to applicants who are children of UCF alumni, UCF 4EVERKNIGHTS Student Alumni Association Members, and/or actively involved in CBA clubs, organizations and activities.

This scholarship requires a separate application. Past recipients are eligible to re-apply for the scholarship; however, individuals are not eligible to receive more than two awards.

One $250 scholarship award for an incoming freshman or current student from the Tampa Bay area. 

Selection criteria:
a) All applicants must be incoming freshman or current student in good standing at The University of Central Florida and, 

b) This is a legacy scholarship. All applicants must have immediate family members that are either current students or alumni for The University of Central Florida. (Parents or Siblings)

One $500 award to a UCF student with junior or senior class standing in the Nicholson School of Communication in fall 2013.

Selection criteria:

a) A minimum 3.0 GPA

b) Possess exemplary characteristics in academic achievement, community involvement and/or work experience. 

Each applicant for this award is required to submit an essay in the "additional information requested" section of the online application; a one-page marketing/communications concept or idea that will increase alumni engagement. This concept should be a complete description of the idea presented on a single, typewritten page.

At least one $250 book award to a current degree-seeking UCF undergraduate student of any class standing.

Selection criteria:

a) A minimum 3.0 overall GPA.

b) Degree-Seeking Undergraduate Status c) demonstration of Financial Need, as determined by the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA)

Each applicant for this award is required submit an essay in the "additional information requested" section of the online application; a one-page essay, double spaced, size 12 font, Times New Roman or Arial, which answers that following essay prompt "The election and reelection of President Obama has prompted some people to believe the United States is now a post-racial society. Do you agree with this sentiment?  Please explain your answer." Applicant must provide two recommendations (from professors, advisors or supervisosr), using the UCF Alumni Scholarship Recommendation Form.
